				Failed Heroism Breaks Hearts

Just got back from a long beach walk with Molly. The poor baby is terribly dejected.
We were walking along the sea edge as usual when one of the many surfers in the quite choppy sea caught a wave, sttod on his board and rode the curl for about 20 or 30 yards. (Pretty impressive around these parts).
Molly stood stock still and did her pointer impression - head forward; front paw raised; tail straight out at the rudder end.
The surfer wobbled and shouted and plopped into the sea, arms flailing and legs randomly flying over his head.
Molly, seeing the poor human - in such distress and in obvious peril of his life - bounded to the rescue. She rushed in with a purpose and made straight for the casualty.
Such heroism in one so young!
Of course, the surfer was more than a little surprised when he got back on his board pursued by a very wet goldie intent on capturing him out of the jaws of death!
But that's irrelevant. It's the thought that counts.
Well done Molly!

				What a clever girl

I bet the surfer got a bit of a shock though

(you can almost imagine the decline in his street cred the fact that a goldie tried to rescue him

 )

				Well done Molly!
I always think Goldens are life-savers in more ways than one.
I know when I feel down, Sam is the one who bucks me up quickest, bless him!
Best wishes - Samsmum (Joyce)

				Molly is a star.

Honey was also a hero over the weekend. We had a stall at a craft fair and some visitors to a friend on the next stall had also brought their grandson. It turned out that he had been bitten and was now understandably worried by dogs. Seeing Honey lying there, being all smiley, having her tummy tickled, licking her own ice cream (was only a small one as a special treat) gave him the confidence to keep edging a little closer until he was giving her strokes.
So glad Honey could show that not all dogs will hurt.

				Well done Honey!
You have now eclipsed the 'heroic' Molly who, excessively puffed up by the heroism she demonstrated last week, was deluded into believing that she was a genuine superhero with the ability to fly. She launched herself from a wall at the beach, flew beautifully for a fraction of a second, then dropped like a stone onto the sand below.
My heart stopped dead, my hands flew to my eyes and I screamed, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I expected to hear whines, yelps and the breaking of bones. What I actually heard was barking as Molly jumped up and started chasing around like a mad thing after another dog.
I gathered her in and examined her and found nothing more than a small sand burn/graze on her bottom lip. PHEW. My blood pressure can't stand this kind of excitement.
