Terrible Two's!

Post by Charlie's Angel »

Oh my word, Terrible twos! Anyone else felt like they want to pull their hair out!

We have the worst week of Charlie doing what he's been taught not to do! Climbing up to reach things off shelves and chewing them up, tv remotes, hair brush etc. He even got onto the work surface and ate a bag of chocolate which resulted in a trip to the vets!

Slightly amusing now, not at the time, but anyone have any stories or experiences to share? I know it varies but wondered when and if yours have grown out of it?

Our Defa (see Rainbow Bridge) was the same, his favourite was to pull up plants and shrubs, not just from our garden but any he could get his mouth round. He was an escape artist and the amount of damage he could do in a short space of time was breathtaking. Then, at around 19 months, he changed completely and all of his 'bad habits', ceased. He was like a different dog. It all seemed to happen overnight.
Stick with it, I'm sure it will soon happen to you.

We have found that after about 18 months they do mature and stop pinching things.
Our first Golden loved a Rosemary bush we had in the garden. She would sit on the lawn and eat all the new shoots.
Candy who is over 11 loves brambles and pulls them from hedges and chews them up. She has a taste for any thing with spines, she also has now started on an Acanthus plant in the garden.
Jazz of course is perfect. !!!!! :1969

my first bitch Kizzy loved socks, vet said despite detergents a dog can get your scent, hence the love of socks, and once when I was in hospital I was told she had pinched a clean pyjama jacket from the laundry basket and she kept it with her till I came back home....which I thought was very touching.
My first dog had a thing for tissues and sweet wrappers, I know from other owners this is not unusual but they do seem to grow out of it, and he had a thing for chewing stones which I had to be very careful about.
the funniest thing was when he took my Dads false teeth from a table, and the way he picked them up they sat perfectly in his mouth, he looked hilarious but of course getting them back meant there was no time to get the camera and take a picture...my Dad was in fits laughing[ with his back turned to the dog who had been a NAUGHTY BOY!].
the dogs seem to grow out of it...but I dont know what starts some of it, especially the tissue thing! they must feel horrible in their mouths once they get wet but it doesnt appear to put the dogs off !

Amber who really should know better goes upstairs, brings down a sock and hands it over to Poppy puppy who goes and buries it in the garden!! :2029: Tissues are another favourite - aren't they lovely?? but we wouldn't change them for the world :love4

I will always remember Ian planted a new rockery just after we got Toby, the next thing is Toby is stood there will plant in mouth as a pressie for daddy!! I did try not to laugh (but failed :1968 )

Snowy has now chewed two remotes up , has great fun pruning our back garden, loves pinching the toilet tissue and chewing it to bits, has pulled the stuffing out of several cushions, everything that isnt nailed down or put out of reach is pinched. He was two last week but shows no sign of slowing down, it was his birthday the day he chewed up the second remote(the wife left it on the chair arm, honestly). what should I do get rid of the dog or the wife. Packed her bags last night to give her a hint at what i had decided, may give her one last chance. Could not get rid of snowy :2008:
