I love these old books! This was an advert in "Pedigree Dog Breeding" by Captain Jocelyn Lucas MC, written in 1925.

Written on the frontispiece is this little poem.

"My wife's so dear." a poor man said
that I can scarcely keep her,
I answered "Buy a dog instead,
it's infinitly cheaper."
