Big Jazz
Yesterday Jazz went on his morning walk and was fine.
By lunch time he started falling over , he seemed unable to coordinate his back legs, and when helped up would stand still and not try to sit down. His eyes flickered and he was panting furiously.
The emergency vet diagnosed Vestibular syndrome which by all accounts occurs in older dogs. It is a problem with the inner ear, fortunately treatable. Anyway at least he is walking a bit this morning and the medication is having an effect. Poor lad did not know what was happening to him yesterday.

Re: Big Jazz
Hi Pat and Syd,
Poor Jazz, it must have been so distressing seeing that happening to him, and he must have wondered what was going on. Fortunately, as you say, it's treatable. Must say I haven't heard of this before.
Fingers crossed he's back to normal soon.
s to them both, Jean, Ray and Ella x

Re: Big Jazz
I have an inner ear problem that comes and goes, where if I tilt my head quickly I go dizzy and when its severe cannot stand up properly, and its nothing to do with beer. So I know how Jazz feels, poor thing, hope he is fully recovered soon, It must have been very worrying at the time for you and him.
Re: Big Jazz
Lenny , Pat has the same problem. She sympathises with you. It appears what Jazz has was often mis diagnosed as a stroke. However it appears to be caused by a sudden rush of a certain body chemical to the middle ear which causes a loss of balance.
He is much better today with only the odd stumble.
Thanks for all the good wishes.

Re: Big Jazz
Sorry that you and Jazz have been having problems, do so hope he is now on the up. What a terrible time you must have had. Good to know it wasn't a stroke and that things will right themselves.

Hope Jazz is soon back to his usual self.

Re: Big Jazz
Thanks everyone for all the good wishes for our two Golden Oldies .Jazz is now on tablets developed for Alpine rescue dogs. They increase the oxygen supply to the blood, which of course is needed at high altitudes. Anyway they are just back from a bit of recuperation near Berwick some photos of the dynamic duo below.

Hi Pat and Syd,
Hope you had a good hol'. We were up on the knot' this afternoon. What a lovely place! It was very wild, nearly blew us into the sea. Lovely photo's of the guy's, No wonder Jazz likes the sea with the size of those feet Good to see they are both feeling better.
