Going for long Dales walks without Simon is just not the same, he always had the knack of showing his appreciation, so I drove him up to the bottom of Great Whernside last Sunday, just for old times sake.
For an hour or so the two of us just ambled along through the snow on the flat area, enjoying ourselves. It was nearly six years ago when we first enjoyed our "mega" twelve hour walks, full of engergy he would walk forever and ask for more, it makes me quite sad knowing we can never share those days again, or the sandwitches.

So sorry at this news as we know you all enjoy your walks. Benjie must miss him being around, they are so close.

It is so sad when they can not what they have been used to doing and you probably feel worse about it than him. Has he got arthritis ? 8 is only young.
I know how you feel ... today has been quite hard. I have been taking Wick out with me when I go jogging which is something that we have done for years. This mornng I ran Fewston Reservoir which I believe is just under 4 miles. I have walked it and jogged round countless times; it is one of our favorites as he is such a water boy. We stopped 4 or 5 times for a wallow and dont get me wong I am no Paula Radcliffe but I think he struggled today. On the home straight I had to keep stopping for him to catch up (mind you when we met polly the black Lab he got a second wind and was bouncng round her!). He has been quite stiff this afternoon so we have had a lazy afternoon watching rugby. My sister in her veterinary wisdom put him on 'cosequin' last year. Not sure if anyone has heard of it but it is glucosimine and chondroitin (excuse the spelling!) essentially (as I understand it) its a vitamin that aids joints and has been proved to have wonderful effect in middle to old age woofers. I have to say it has had a brilliant effect - he has one tablet in his breakfast every morning. Despite the Cosequin, today was the first time I have noticed his age. Unfortunatley the running career is over - he is still very much up for walks and exploration, but from now on my trainers will stay at home. Excuse my language but I bloody love my dog. I never imagined the day that I would out run him!

It is sad when they start to slow down...and we're not always aware how quickly their years go compared to ours. He's just come to another stage in his life now, which I'm sure he'll enjoy at a "slower pace".
