A goodbye to my darling Sasha
I just wanted to say that today I had to say a final goodbye to my darling retriver Sasha. She was 10 and had developed lymphoma. In the past few weeks she really went downhill despite our lovely vet and daily caring from all of us. This morning, she could not see properly, had difficulty getting up and was still having tummy problems which have come and on in the past month. The kindest thing was to let her go peacefully at the vet's. She was a fantastic girl who had grown up with our children and will be sadly missed.
She wasn't a rescue dog (although we have had rescue dogs in the past) but I know all of you will understand how sad we all are.
We have treasured every day with her and know we will meet again one day, along with other pets who have passed away.
RIP my darling Sasha - I will be making a donation to Retriever Rescue in your name.
Colette xx

Thinking of you Coliboo at this sad time and it is so sad when we lose one of our lovely friends but we have to take comfort from the fact that we gave them a wonderful life and at the end we let them go with dignity and peace.

Re: A goodbye to my darling Sasha
hello and I am sorry for your loss. Cant echo all the words of comfort to you enough. I have been there twice with my dogs and am facing another difficult decision quite soon I fear with my 13 year old. You will feel lousy for some time I know.... I would start crying out of the blue for no particular reason for quite some time. It is healing though, and hopefully not too far into the future you will laugh with your family recalling the funny things your dog would do, the good times you shared.
With time, the way you will view this decision will be as the last kind thing you did for your beloved dog. This breed is so easy to bond with that their loss is very sorely felt.
Thinking of you,

Sorry for your loss....its so heartbreaking to to lose a member of the family but as has been said you do begin to remember you departed friend with a smile on your face as time goes by.
Try not to focus on the final few hours of their time with you but remember the happier times. Nearly two years on and I still fill up when I think of the final moments of my muppets day.

Re: A goodbye to my darling Sasha
Many thanks to everyone for your kind and understanding comments.
It's so hard at the moment, even with our other dog (weimi Ruskin) still here and being much younger wanting to play all the time!
Tonight he goes with my husband in his HGV for the week and it will seem very lonely.
But I draw comfort from knowing that Sasha is at peace and in a better place, with no more suffering and pain.
Love to all of you and your doggies of course!
