Canine Castaway.........

Post by Ellas mum »

Has anyone seen the story of the Australian cattle dog, Sophie Tucker, washed overboard in rough seas off the coast of Australia, whilst on a sailing holiday with her qwners. They looked for her for 4hrs, but failed to find her in the shark infested waters. :2005:
Unbeknown to them, she had swum more than 5 nautical miles to an island, where she lived off the land and small wild goats for 4mths before being spotted by rangers. She had grown quite wild living on her own, but soon returned to her old self when reunited with her amazed owners.
An uplifting story, in these hard times :1959:

Yes, saw it on lunchtime news. What a lovely story. Reunited with her owners at last. Just shows what they are capable of.

I don't know about you but I got quite emotional about it. Must be my age seem to need the tissues every time I read or see anything these days. How wonderful for the family and how amazing that someone saw the dog and remembered after 4 months.

Oh, me too Jan. I know these cattle dogs are supposed to be tough, but to swim all that way, and how would she know there was an island somewhere near? I think someone was watching over her.
