Post by sonia »

Thought i would let you all know that we went and met Jan this afternoon :)
And yes we came with a new addition :) Her name is Ella and Jan thinks she is about 12 months old, she is a sweet gentle little girl, so quiet (well at the minute) I will try and get some pictures of her on the site real soon.

Jan it was a real pleasure to meet you. Thanks for your help :)

Thought i would give you a little update...
Ella was very quiet when we got her home she never barked once, until bed time came.. then i realised she does bark lol.
In the end i got her bed (which she loves) and brought it up stairs and put it on the floor beside our bed, she nudges me a bit and the lay down and went to sleep, by this time it was 11.45pm!!

Now have a made a big mistake?? Last night she slept on her bed on the floor again, may try her downstairs tonight... the thing is Brad always comes up when we got to bed then toddles off after half an hour.

Its so funny to watch her with the toys, she takes them and puts them on her bed and Brad removes them from her bed lol..
I think Brad thinks "who does she think she is?" When she eats her dinner she mouches around the bowl picking her favourites out :2004:

I a a little worried about going to work tomorrow and leaving her... Shall i leave her in the lounge with Brad. I am worried that if i put her in the kitchen she will be barking, don't want her to get distressed..

You are not out for long so I am sure they will be fine together. They will probably sleep. Try not to make too much of a thing of it. This is normal Ella I wont be long and off you go. Good Luck

It's all so strange to Ella at the moment, a big adventure with a new pal and family.
It won't take long before the female of the species is always the 'boss' that's what my Husband says.

Give her a 'kong' and fill it with corned beef or cheese and then slip out quietly, some of the books I've read say don't do this or that, but it worked for Cobi, who had very bad seperation anxiety when we first had her. Cobi used to come to bed upstairs at first, now she settles on the sofa or a bed downstairs, but as soon as my hubby puts the kettle on, Ginnie is up those stairs and on our bed like greased lightning, she then becomes a 'bed limpet', after 10 mins or so, he has put his arms around her and gently pulls her to the edge of the bed...then she settles in her giant 'donut' bed.

Hi Sonia,
Perhaps you could try leaving her bed downstairs, then she may come up with Brad or on her own, then maybe she will go down when he does. I don't know if their beds are in the same room, but she will soon get to know where 'bed' is. Our Ella will spend some part of the night on the landing, and some on her bed by the front door, her favourite place.
A little time and I'm sure all will be well :1957:

In this house we have a day bed (downstairs) and night bed (upstairs)...when we first got Amber she slept with Sam in the kitchen but when he died she was completely distrssed alone in the kitchen so now she's upstairs...she loves bedtime...it works well except for the snoring! :2029:

It's funny how quickly they get the hang of things. Our 2 know the difference between work days and weekends. The short time I worked after getting Willow, the dogs just went onto their duvet, and that was that(with the added comfort of a few shape biscs) Weekends are a whole different ball game. Try and get through the door without them and all hell breaks loose. They both get that" we don't do it that way" look. Believe me, it isn't to be ignored. LEAVE US AT YOUR PERIL. To be fair, if the dogs can't go, neither do we. :2005:

Things will settle quickly Sonia, and the Kong trick works. I stuffed it with shapes for Willow, not as messy as some of the things they advise.

It's all another day in dog town. Something to remember and chuckle about later.
