Jan mentioned a 12 year old goldie that needed a home on Friday as I collected the gazebos for the Lab Rescue fun day.. All weekend, Carolyn and I discussed the possibility of enlarging our clan of 4 to 5 and in some ways had managed to keep our sensible heads on and not picked up the phone!
Now I remember the day when Jan was still stuck in the 18th century and email was something sent on star trek where non of this would have happened but - as I am partly responsible for the transition to the 21st century i hold myself partly to blame!
Now - from the 21st century, Jan has learned to send emails - and to use them very strategically - I received one from her yesterday with the picture below, asking me to put this little love on the site as she needed a new home.....

Well... being a bloke who is only allowed to make decisions when my wife says so or cant make her mind up... i immediately forwarded the email in an equally strategic way to her who must be obeyed and eagerly awaited her response!
I have to say.. it was what I had hoped for... nay even expected! "i'm in tears here - go and get her" was the response - so, as a bloke I can now say that none of this is my fault!!
Anyway - as the dutifull husband i duly rang Jan and said i would pick her up - precisely as ordered you understand!! - and here we now have Alex
The first evening involved some settling in as you can imagine - Ben, our 6 stone 12 year old fostered Lab with a really bad hip thought his dreams had come true and desperately wished his old worn out body could carry out the thoughts his still young and active mind was thinking - what a disappointment - and a quick growel and snap from Alex confirmed his dreams were to remain just that!
She was a little overwhelmed by everything - 4 new playmates, new mum and dad, new house... poor thing was mesmorised by it all.
Anyway - lots of TLC, some tea and lots of love and attention - and a good brushing and she has settled in a treat....
She seems to be getting used to everything and has now learned that sitting by the front door when she wants a wee doesnt work and has now found the back door - the others, well they have settled down and accepted her and as the novelty has worn off, peace and tranqulity is returning.. At lunchtime when Carolyn was having her toast, she offered Alex her piece (not that our dogs are spoilt of course) but she would not take it - but once she had watched the others, you could see her realise that it must be ok and she gingerly came for her own little treat!
After a good nights sleep with no problems or accidents, breakfast, brushing and walks - Alex now looks like this

I guess we still have a few more days before she is fully adjusted but the start has been as good as we could have hoped for. It will take a few weeks for her fur to regrow and bring her back into condition but she is going to become yet another daddys little princess!
For those of you who remember Amber - daddys other little princess.. this is how she looked when we got her about 5 months ago - aged 9

Just a little update on her - her fur has regrown on her back, her ears are now clear and her feet have healed properly - Here is a picture of her with her brother Toby (the white one - 15 months and Chloe the 10 year old Black Lab) relaxing

and not to miss out old Ben - 12 year old lab who has the most amazing character

Those that are members or regular visitors to this forum will know that we love the oldies but for anyone new who is considering adopting a dog, do not discount an oldie - they are so loving and rewarding and, as much as they will not be with you for as long as a young one - they will repay your kindness and love a thousand times...
