Hello.
This is our first visit to the North West Golden Retriever Rescue Web Site.
We thought you might like to share our Goldie’s- past and present, and to meet them via their photos.
The year 1972 was the year we were first introduced to the World of Golden Happiness. We had taken home a Golden Retriever Cross puppy who had cruely been taken for his walk (by car) and then abandoned in a small Village not far from where we live. Sandy was with us for l5 years – he was a most loyal and wonderful companion – friend to everyone EXCEPT men who wore blue Jeans – he could not tolerate them – we drew our own conclusions to this end !
Eight weeks after we Sadly said Goodbye to Sandy we heard from a local Animal Rescue that two Golden Retrievers - Father 5 years and Son aged l8 months were looking for a home – preferably together - due to the impending arrival of a new Baby. Barney and his Son, Benji, moved in. Two fantastic beautiful Boys, with a terrific chemistry between them. Poor Benji was diagnosed with severe Hip Displaysia in both his Hips and he underwent major surgery on both his Hips, It was amazing how his Dad Barney cared for him throughout his convalescence. Benji went from strength to strength and enjoyed a wonderful and happy full life until he sadly left us at the age of l4 yrs 2 mths.
Four years after adopting Barney and Benji we were asked by a Friend if we could possibly take her two year old little girl Goldie named Gemma due to her own sad and unexpected change of circumstances. Within less than 2 minutes the answer was ,of course, YES, What a truly fine trio they were – never one crossword and they all lived in superb harmony together. When asked if they were all related we would say – Father, Son and Live-in-Girlfriend !
After we had to sadly say Goodbye to Barney at the age off 15 years 4 months Gemma still had her friend Benji but immediately after saying Goodbye to Benji oh dear how she pinned and became very withdrawn,
THIS IS WHERE JAN CAME TO HER RESCUE.
Six weeks later Jan introduced Gemma and ourselves to a very beautiful and most handsome Goldie aged 5 years named Sam who became Gemma’s best pal and spent eight wonderfully happy years with her. Very sadly at the age of l3 years Sam was diagnosed with Cancer and we had to make the heartbreaking decision very suddenly to say Goodbye .
Gemma went on to reach the grand old age of l7 yrs 2mths and although she latterly suffered with Arthritis this was considerably eased by having Acupuncture and as a result of such treatment she enjoyed an extension of a new lease of a comfortable and good quality of life.
You may remember Gemma at Jan’s Fun Day Show last September when she took her pride of place in the Veterans Ring and she received a clapping ovation. How she did enjoy that Day with her Friend Hero - another Goldie who had been on a sleep-over with us and came along to join in the fun - he walked away with 2nd place in the under two Class. Sadly, Gemma reached the end of her wonderful full and happy life on the l2th December.
NOW WE ARE INTRODUCING –HENRY AND HIS SISTER HONEY, both aged 7 years and 4 months (same litter). Their Owner had passed away and they were looking for a new home together – how could we say No ! They have been with us just l2 weeks and have really settled into their new home. They both have a very gentle and ever so loving nature and are extremely devoted to each other. They love to play and tease each other with their cuddly toys and will wash each others face and inspect their ears. Of course, being true Goldies they insist on greeting you with a present with of one of their cuddly toys and as for finding ALL the mud and puddles in the Park on their daily walks – well – enough said . – they arrive home somewhat two toned !
We are now looking forward to many happy years ahead with our two loveable newcomers and to meeting up with old and new friends at Jan’s next Fun Day Show, sunshine and blue skies have already been ordered well in advance.
In the meantime - Enjoy your beautiful Goldies and remember.

Hello and welcome, what lovely pictures and such a wonderful story. We are a bit new to this as we had a retriever 15 years ago and have been without a dog until last October when Jan introduced us to the Beautiful Holly. We are looking forward to our first fun day and meeting all the lovely people we feel we know already. Keep the pictures coming and the updates on your adventures.
