Golden Retriever Attacked in Cockermouth, Cumbria

Post by 1Harvey »

This story was posted in a local paper this week... Utterly disgusting! How many more of these attacks do there have to be before something is done, there has obviously been a string of attacks on guide dogs etc recently also. It just doesn't bear thinking about x

poor holly, at least she looks like she's going to be ok. although how she'll be when she has to go back out for a walk? and the state of her poor owners hands. i do think it about time they did start sorting out a law for these attacks against dogs though. as for saying no crime had been commited- i was talking to a lady with a boxer the other week and the dog ran up to my children aged 9and 5. she was running behind her dog saying she only wants a love -i'm sorry. my girls gave the dog a big fuss and she said the other week her dog got out the front garden and went running up to a little girl. the man who was with the girl started being abusive to the dogs owner but didn't pick the girl up. instead he went to the police and reported the dog for being out of control. the police visited her and told her she must keep the dog on a lead and she has to be in control even if the dog is in her garden.
why can a policeman follow up that but say there is no case to answer when a woman and her dog have suffered so much when out on a walk?

Didnt have to read the whole article, to know what type of dog was involved,, yes the owners are to blame more than the dogs, but I would be very happy if the owners of these type of dogs had to be vetted to see if they were fit to own dogs at all or are they just trophey dogs to fit with the owners tough image, sorry to sterotype but its true so many times.l :2011: I am so glad that Holly was not more seriously injured This maybe a rant but I DONT CARE. :2012:

Well I couldn't read it because it makes my blood boil....

I cannot understand the mentality of anyone who has one of these dogs.

My Ceili was attacked by a Staffie and the owner was a friend of ours, 'we' four couples had gone away for a long weekend to the sea, Ceili had walked with this dog several times at home over the fields and on this beach, she wasn't bothered about other dogs and would not go up to them. The last day of our holiday, we were all walking along the beach, he ran up to Ceili and grabbed straight for her throat, my husband was closeby and kicked out at him and managed to knock him off balance but he got a grip of her loose skin around her neck ....and then LOCKED HIS JAWS.... the owner then got him by his 'neither regions' and had his back legs off the ground, my husband had Ceili's slip lead around his throat, and the owner's wife had her fingers up her dogs nose trying to stop him breathing so he would open his mouth and let go. Ceili was crying, this damn dog eventually let go, as he let go he shut his mouth on the two fingers that had stopped him from breathing, he DIDN'T BITE HER... but smashed her knuckles and took two finger nails off !!!!

Why the hell do people say ' Oh Staffie's are good with children' beats me.... this dog was fine until it turned and that was for no reason whatsoever. :2011:

As for the stupid idea about having dogs microchipped to cut these attacks .....how does that prove anything, you can't tell me that this government will pay to have the offending dog DNA'd and then match it to their microchip, and the sort of people who have a dog as a status symbol don't have their dogs microchipped, lets face it they are not true dog lovers.

I don't know whether to be grateful or sad but Cobi is frightened of other dogs since we lost Ginnie, and goes down when another dog comes up to her. Ginnie would have a go if another dog started to growl at her or Cobi, it must have been her tough upbringing prior to her going into Jan's rescue.

Hi there!I agree with all the comments, and further, why would people really want a dog of a type which has proved itself not entirely reliable with anyone, let alone children. But then, these people have their own reasons, I suppose, but these attack stories make me really mad, especially when the owners think nothing about it.

What a dreadful story, and how ridiculous of the police to say no offence had been committed. What does the evidence show!!?? Unfortunately our police are more concerned with speeding motorists!!!!!!.... than keeping people and dogs safe!!!! Can you tell I have a "chip on my shoulder"?

I agree with you all, im not a fan of Staffies have to admit, we were once walking our two along lancaster canal when i spotted one sitting with a lady, i put mine both back on the lead, and yes out of the blue it came and just went for Lucy but I was prepared and got it off her ready to throw it in the canal, the woman came up saying the usual leave my dog alone, I gave it to her with both barrells I have to admit.. :2011: she went skulking off, dragging the dog, on the way back we had to pass where we saw her previously but she was gone...
