All seems quiet on here. Is everyone busy. I have been busy this week and am just this moment enjoying a bit of peace.
The reason being Tilly , the 6 month old Flatcoat belonging to son number 2 is staying for the week and is now asleep after a very exhausting walk. More exhausting for me than her I have to say. She is very excited when meeting other dogs and people. Just a very happy young lady but she is really good with my two oldies and is very respectful.
However I think they will breath a sigh of relief when her mum & dad come to collect her. I realise why I just love the oldies.
Yes Jan I know what you mean about loving the 'oldies' although I don't really consider Ginnie as possibly being 12ish.....but when Megan who's 4 and Cobi 5 start playing Ginnie usually clambers up onto the sofa and lets them get on with it.
Megan went back with soggy ears this morning.
Pleased to hear Tilly enjoying her "holiday" Jan. Lovely that she is so good with the oldies. Typical flattie, giving all and sundry kisses.
Poor Archie, I bet he's having a great time without her Bet he thinks he's well shut, what a surprise he's in for when mum and dad calls to collect Tilly. Bet he loves her really.
You cannot beat the older Goldens. Our two 12 Year olds have so much sense. Will not go near a road without a lead always wait for the lead to be put on. Who can beat a happy smiling face at the bedroom door in the morning . " Come on get up time for breakfast and a walk ". Whatever you are doing there are two faces close by willing to assist in any way they can.
I don't class Ella as being a Golden Oldie just yet, she's 8, but I know what you mean about the happy smiling face first thing in the morning, first breakfast, then waits patiently for her walk.
It is 10 weeks since we brought Bonnie home and she is doing really well. The timid little girl has now lots of confidence and loves her walks. She walks by my side when we walk by the canal and even ventures out in front sometimes. Still is scared of other dogs getting too close and usually tries to ignore them and hopes they go away. She loves it when we all go out for a walk and we let her off the lead in a safe place where there are no cars etc, she runs around like a maniac and then runs back to us. We don't use treats often just lots of pats and praise. She does have a liking for chicken though and does have chicken treats. She is a very good dog and couldn't have asked for a more loving dog. Bonnie is so affectionate and very well behaved. She does let out a little bark and growl when strangers knock at the door which is good. She is very happy now.
Hi Carol,
Bonnie sounds a real sweetheart....she seems to have settled really well, and isn't it wonderful to watch her flourish and grow in confidence, what a difference a loving home makes! Ella was also very timid for quite a long time, and sometimes still is. She will also tell us if there is anyone near the house. In the early days, she never barked at all.
Hugs for Bonnie
So nice to hear from you Carol. I am so pleased that Bonnie is settling well and gaining in confidence. As Ella's mum says it is lovely to see them flourish in the right home.
Pleased to hear Little Girlie settling down. She sounds to be coming along so well now Carol, you'll really see a difference in her I'm sure.
Another happy ending and forever home.
Hugs from Us.
Hello Jan thought i should let you know my friend that we lost Sam recently to auto-immune disease which first attacked his back legs(which was treatable) and then attacked his kidnies (which wasn't).Only 7 but thanks to you we had nearly 6 wonderful years with our amazing boy.Gentle sweet Ellie who is now 12 is a bit lost without his company and not happy to be left on her own which thankfully isn't very often. We are taking her away to our favourite holiday in shropshire to a cottage with its own orchard. She will love it.At the beginning of May after we have also been to the seaside visting friends , we will be in touch to see if you can help us once again fill that retriever shaped gap in our lives.Sam was just the most eager and happy boy who just loved to lie in my arms and fall asleep. He had a short life but packed everything in at 100 miles an hour almost as if he knew he had to make the most of it.Nobody now barks when someone comes near our property.Even my Husband had to phone to be let in the other day!I know we can't replace him but i know that the pleasure of giving a forever home to another of these most amazing creatures will help us to heal and we can shower them with the love they so need.It is so painful having to wait as i am chomping at the bit but we have to be ready to open our arms and create the best possible atmosphere for them to settle here in their own time.I don't need to tell you Jan how i am feeling right now and i know all you lovely people out there will have been through it as may times as i have.I send all my best wishes to you Jan.I would just love another boy who is maybe still young as i know that Ellie will be with us for no longer than a few years. When the time comes to say goodbye to our Ellie we would take in another oldie then.I know we shouldn't make specifications as they all deserve a loving home and given half a chance i would have them all, but our experience with Sam and with our first rescue Bosun who came via a local kennels and was another very very special boy who had never been outside his owners pantry his entire 9 years but just loved everything and everyone.Thank you for what you do Jan a million times.
Will be ringing on the 4th of May(its in my diary)on our return.Love to all those lucky goldens out there in their forever homes.
Diane,Andy and Ellie
So very sorry to read your sad news Diane, it is never easy loosing a dear friend.
I can fully understand your feeling of "chomping at the bit", felt exactly the same at this time last year. Things have a way of happening though, and once again a heart leaps with joy. So roll on May for you all. Thoughts are with you.
Oh Lynn thank you.I know what you mean about things happening. When we were ready for a new addition i said what i really wanted was a boy aged 2 called Sam(lord of the rings -don't ask)and when i phoned Jan there was Sam waiting for me aged 2!!
Your goldens look absolutely adorable would love to hear about them?
Hello Diane and Andy,
So sorry to hear about your Sam and I really feel for you. It is so awful to lose a dear friend; even if only after a few years we still feel it deeply, and poor Ellie! No doubt she will adjust for a while, and it will soon be May.
Have a good holiday with her, and I am sure you will soon have another golden to lavish your love and affection on.
God bless you for giving another one a forever home, and God bless Jan for giving these beautiful dogs another chance in life.
Samsmum (Joyce).
Thank you so much Joyce very thoughtful of you to reply.Sam came into our lives fearful of other dogs but Ellie showed him that not all dogs are scarey.Even though we only had him 5 1/2 years he made himself at home straight away and we really felt as though we had had him twice as long.He was such a joker always trying to make us laugh.
love to you and yours
Diane
