Monty on holiday

Post by sammingtonsmythes »

Hi Guys
we went away recently for a few days to Portmeirion.Monty saw the sea for the first time. Its tidal there so the first time we watched it come in just feet away from our cottage he was a little worried. With encouragement from me though he sat & watched it.We went on the beach but unfortunately at this time of the year the tide didnt go out completely. There were also some areas of quick sand & with him wanting to drink the sea water we had to leave him on his lead.He was so funny though would run around on the spot with excitement. We had a very long lead which wasnt bad.At one point he was like one of those timer switches when you wind them up.All on the spot digging himself a hole like a corkscrew it was so funny!Of course we missed Ellie so much.It was ours & Montys first holiday without her.He was such a good boy though sleeping on his own bed next to ours.He did try to jump up but one OUT & he decided he didnt want to go OUT so got on his bed.Still having problems with him & the car after 2 years. If it is at all out of routine then he wont get in and once in cheeps like a baby bird.We stopped just outside the village to relieve himself & had a huge struggle getting him back in the car.Bless him just dont know what he has been through before he came to us.He trusts me in everything else i just think he connects it to being taken away from his home. Its such a strong reaction. Its just something we have to deal with as he loves it when we get there.
Photos to come shortly
love to all

So glad that Monty did well on his holiday. I know what you mean about the reluctance to get in the car. If Harvey catches on that he's going in the boot the anchors come on and he does the most incredible impression of Eeyore! In my infinite wisdom a month or 2 ago I decided to buy a ramp... that was bound to be successful, I spent a long time researching the best one, that didn't bounce when he walked up it etc etc... needless to say, it remains in the garage now gathering dust. We did manage to get him about a third of the way up but realising that even chicken wasn't luring him up (plus the neighbours finding it wayyy to funny!) we decided that Dave should continue to lift him in and out! If anyone can use a pretty decent dog ramp, let me know!!

Oh i so feel for you on that one!Monty will get in for a treat but will get out again as fast as lightening by ANY means he can! Then will try to cling onto me shouting a right carry on!The looks we get "Hes a rescue dog" to passing people who are sure we are trying to kidnap him.The only thing we can do if this happens is get him in as fast as possible. One pulling the lead from inside the car and one pushing and lifting .A real nightmare.
