Hi Lenny,
Do hope your ribs soon improve and you are back to normal. It is so painful when you hurt your ribs as every breath seems to leave you in agony. I try to take extra care now, and carry towels under my arm just for peace of mind. Sam is a great watcher and lies where he can see as many aspects of the rooms as possible. He also lies outside on the step, just under the patio doors, so it always pays to make sure he is not lying there.

I have a pull in my groin after lifting Olivers back end up after he became infirm.
It lasts so long and is so painful, but I am mending now so am not quite so bad.

As for laying near the door, I regret having the kitchen layout we chose last year as the island leaves a gangway each side which the Goldies have chosen to lay in.

It doesnt matter they have their beds or a sofa or a mat to choose, they have to lay on the tiled floor, near the door which means we have to step over them.

There seems to be many similarities in the Golden Retriever breed which we only realise when we compare notes, I suppose we assume it is individual trait but reading the posts on here, I recognise many of the traits of my five Goldies over the years.

I am slowly getting better I went back to work last week, but on light duties, things were slightly complicated by the fact Id only had a slipped disc op about a month earlier. Thankfully I didn't do any damage to my spine. Thank you all for your sympathies. Hope to see you at the fun day.

Yep .... we have another one in our house ... Honey likes to lie in the doorway when open and against the door when shut.

She also had a tendancy with the stairs when younger and lived with the motto .. if the stair fits, lie on it!

What a great pic of Honey, and what a Honey she looks at least when Emily lies on the stairs she lies where the stairs turn and you can just squeeze past, but with my luck at the moment Im keeping well away.

Hope you are feeling better, 'we' both know what it's like to suffer with back problems, and I bruised a few ribs when falling on the icy footpath in 1987 a few days after collecting Ceili, I swear it wouldn't have hurt if I'd had a drink or two....
Lenny we all send our best wishes for a quick recovery.

'Honey' what a lovely photograph of you on the stairs, 'non shall pass'

Both ours have a habit of lying in our very small hallway from the lounge to kitchen, Ginnie is the worst !!!! and just as you are about to step over her.....it took me quite a few months to teach Ginnie what all our other goldens knew 'excuse me please', and all of them have moved when we say it. With the exception of when she has laid up against the sliding door in the caravan and 'shut' me in the bathroom !!! she either can't hear me or more likely choses not to, as she is comfortable.....

Honey seems to be saying (to coin a modern phrase) "Get over it" (or me!!).
Sam loves to lie in the doorway of the caravan, and I am sure that one day I shall do the splits trying to stride over him and onto the wobbly step below. I know it will happen when there are lots of other caravanners standing around to witness my downfall!!!

I've cracked this problem. I just make sure I have something that might be taken to resemble food in at least one hand. Then Molly jumps up and scoots backwards (with lots of bum waggling) until I'm through the door.
