I lost my goldie boy Ben when he was 6. We got a puppy - toby who is now almost 2 years old - i love golden retrievers and had never really thought of a girl to go with toby.... until I was at Jans and when I asked if she had any oldies needing a home she said she had.
It turned out that she had a 9 year old called Jade - now amber. Well I had never even thought of a female but we came the next day to have a look at her - I say to have a look a little tongue in cheek - she was coming home regardless!
I knew that this old girl had had a rough time of it, being thrown out in the floods etc and was in a bit of a state and I have to say when we saw her for the first time that momentary what on earth are we doing must have flashed through both our minds...
That aside - if you are thinking of having another goldie to go with your boy, please dont dismiss a girl - they are amazing! Amber is the most loving, affectionate girl there is - a right little character in her own way, and whilst totally different than toby- she is every bit as special as toby in every way..
And Toby and Amber very quickly became inseperable!!
