Grumpy is funny when people stop to admire our 2. If someone say's " aren't you gorgeous " he always retaliates with " the dogs aren't bad either " He gets some very strange looks, but if they get what he's at they laugh like mad. Mmmm, don't know what that means, probably " silly old fool".

I simply stand back and bask in his reflected glory. He revels in all the attention and who am I to come between him and his many fans?
I did have stern words with one little boy. Bentley was having one of his many rest stops on his walk, he doesn't like the sun and stops in every bit of shade. This little boy approached us from behind and patted Bentley's head while he jumped over him! He basically used the dog as a hurdle!
Talk about asking for trouble! Thank goodness Bentley's so placid! Of course if the child had been bitten then the dog would have been blamed even though he was completely innocent in it all. GGRRRRR.
It was my first negative experience and it really scared me how quickly dangerous situations can develop. Now I'm trying to cultivate eyes in the back of my head to warn me when stupid people are approaching.

Lynn: Grumpy sounds like my kind of person.

Our first golden of our own Ceili (1987) did not like children, as a result of the farmer's young son hitting her with a stick, (he didn't get a second chance, as I shouted NO at him ) the child had come into the field where we then kept our caravan (I wouldn't have let a child of 5ish wander around on his own) it only takes one incident to change the dogs life, Ceili was only a few months old and thankfully she didn't bite him, but from that day to the day she died 13 years later she would 'grizzle' if friends brought their children to see us. Abigail, Jasmine, and Ginnie were fine with children, and Cobi is, I always tell the parents not to let the child run towards my dog or to touch my dog, they must ask first.
