I went to puppy classes
Did all the training too
I learned all about recall
So I knew just what to do
THEN.....
We went out for our first walk
And he went running free
No matter how I tried and tried
He would not come back to me
The little rascal ran with joy
I stood and called in vain
But he was on a mission now
Running faster than a train
I stood and rattled his box of treats
My voice was getting higher
But there was just no stopping him
This boy of mine's a flyer
Finally I caught up with him
Breathless now and shattered
I was just relieved to have him back
That's all that really mattered
He stared at me for quite a while
Expectation in his eyes
He was looking at the box of treats
He now wanted his prize
'No way' I said in my sternest voice
' These are not for you.
You didn't come when I called out,
or do what you should do'.
I don't know if he understood, but, we're off to class once more
I really have to get it right
This recall, that's for sure.

Re: I recall!!! What call
Hes only a puppy let loose for the first time,
as he gets older he will toe the line.
so give him his treet and let him run,
he heard you call but was having so much fun.

Love that and how true....that's our Ginnie (sinful Ginful) to a T, the old tinker can still run faster than we can when she 'sifts the air with her snout' and gets the smell of water in her nostrils.........different story on the way home or back to the car...... go slow....... and then slower....

I just loved the bit that said..."my boys a flyer"..so Woody. 2 speeds, fast and faster. Wouldn't change him for the world, even if I do suffer the occasional bout of hyper ventilation!!!!

Hello there!
How lucky we are!! Sam never leaves us - except - when he sees the sea in the distance and then Concorde had nothing on him! He's in, and doesn't want to come out, and if he does come out, he is back in before you can say "treat"!
We can leave all the doors open and he doesn't go anywhere - what a relief after our lovely Meg - the times the door was not quite closed, and she could open doors so well and she was gone with me in hot pursuit waving a treat! She would tour the whole area before she would come back to me, and I ended up exhausted!
