I know this is silly but....

Post by Cobi and Ginnies Mum »

My friend who owns Megan (4 yr old golden retriever, she comes to stay with us now and again)
she looked after my two for several hours whilst we were visiting Mum in hospital.... and she loves baking...... and when I found out what my two had been doing, out came this little ditty.

Megan had the 'beaters'
Cobi had the bowl...
Ginnie's up the garden....digging a big hole !!!

Very spontaneous - well done! Loved it!
At the T.G. I go to, we recently had a group of writers and they read some of their poems and short stories and I loved this one -
Barking Mad.
The dog next door is very large, he barks each time I pass.
And sometimes he gets out and then he c---- upon my grass.

I don't like him, he dislikes me, we share a mutual hate.
Open war is just prevented by the garden gate.

I wonder why, in all the world, that it should chance to be
That he and I are neighbours and he lives next door to me.

One thing for sure, it can't be a golden!!

It's quite embarassing (thankfully Megan's Mum and Dad are good friends, AND Megan was a digger in her puppyhood) Ginnie always makes for the corner of their garden in the flower borders and ' goes into 4 paw drive !!!) I usually call her away with 'if I'd have wanted a digger I have bought a JCB' her face and feet are filthy, she doesn't dig in our garden, probably because all the plants and flowers are in pots and she can't get into full flow.... (Ceili and Jasmine were diggers) Ginnie squeezed through a small hole and escaped from Mum and Dad's garden one day, I was worried that she was in a garden where the people were out.... when we found her several heart thumping minutes later..... the look on her face was... oh you've found me then, you took your time.

WOW! Do you have and idea just how 'a la mode' you all are? This instant poetry writing thing is all the rage among the young intellectuals at universities all over the world. They call it slamming.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO impressed! I thought we were all a bunch of oldies - now I find we are on the cutting edge! How cool is that?

Here's my attempt.

Who's the dog who loves me?
She's sitting over there
She's twitching while she's dreaming
She's my baby bear.

She smells like sand a seaweed
She's stinking up the chair
She steals my bread and chocolate
My thieving baby bear.

She licks my feet and cheers me
When life has been unfair
Gives my underwear to strangers
My helpful baby bear.

She's a pile of contradictions
But I don't really care
I love my thievy trievy
The world's best baby bear.

SLAM!

Anyone else want a try? Go on - you'll be joining a VERY fashionable crowd. :1949:

Very good... My Mum who is now in her early eighties really can write poetry, but it is usually something that has happened within our family so wouldn't mean much to anyone. I had a little dabble with some of our caravanning exploits, but it would bore anyone who isn't a caravannner.
We must be on a similar wavelength in what we call our dogs... Ginnie is always refered to as a big lovable old bear....(we haven't got Sky TV but has anyone seen the HD advert on the Sky when the grizzly bear leans over to catch a salmon... our Ginnie looks just like that when she waits for something to be thrown into water and she is dripping wet) stange isn't it what we call our dogs.

Here is one I have written for a local competition in May.
Don't think it will win, but at least I have tried.
The Weather Forecaster.
I try so hard to understand
the vagaries of our weather,
But somehow nature won't comply
And I can't get things together.
It's going to rain the next two days -
Could even last a fortnight -
So one way or another
I hope to get it right!

We might have storms tomorrow
With thunder, lightening too.
On the other hand we might not -
The sky could still be blue!
There's snow about up in the hills,
And in the valleys low.
We could have brilliant sunshine -
I really do not know.

We had ground frost lat Thursday
When I predicted showers.
I gazed around my garden -
The chill had killed my flowers.
We haven't had much sunshine
So I think we're due for some.
But please do not be too surprised
If the sunshine doesn't come.

I thought that Spring had just arrived
As the birds burst into song.
But then we had some sleet and snow -
Again I got it wrong.
I'm sick of weather forecasts;
The whole thing is a mess.
The state of English weather
Is anybody's guess.

I couldn't get predictions right
However much I tried,
So I'm packing in this irksome job
And salvaging my pride!

Hello Ella's Mum,
Many thanks! As I have been suffering from an "itis" for nearly a month, an "ology" will make a nice change.
I have had a rotten viral infection, and it has floored me, so in a moment of madness, I dedided to enter one local and one national Women's Club competition. One was for a poem, and the other for a short story called "Confessions of a Bored Housewife" (that was a compulsory subject). They
couldn't have picked a worse subject for me, as I still work, am a member of numerous organisations, and always have loads of project going. So it was all imaginations! But - I do like a challenge. You never know, one day a moment of inspiration might set me on track for an "ology"!! I shall keep trying!! Best wishes - Joyce (Samsmum)

Here is my little ditty.....

ELECTION FEVER

Bang, there goes my letter box
another load of bumph,
It's our beloved politicians
all giving it the umph.

This time it's the big one
all hit the campaign trail,
On battle buses, bykes, in walking boots
they wander, hill and dale.

They're out there with thier megaphones
shouting out the odds,
"Let's get it right", oh what a sight
Our wonderful "tin gods".

I'm looking out the window now
They're coming up the street,
Now, do I go and greet them
or beat a fast retreat.

No, I'll open up and meet them
tell my grumbles and my gripes,
Then listen to they're promises
the waffle and the hype.

In this life, I don't ask much
a warm and safe abode,
Give us "Bobby's" on the beat
fill the holes up in the road.

Oh yes they say, we'll do all that
we are the great and good,
do I believe they're promises?
It's all as clear as mud.

So, Mr Brown, if you're around
when this election's or'e,
don't break all you're promises
and leave us on the floor.

Remember all those people
who voted, just like me,
That's it..I'm done..I've said my piece
I'm going to make some tea.
