Fun day?
Hello everyone,
I am new to the board and new to golden retrievers. Our eight year old border collie sadly went to Rainbow Bridge in July, and we are now turning our thoughts to a new canine companion and have been reading lots about the breed.
We've been looking at this site with a great deal of interest over the last few weeks and our hearts have been really warmed by what we've been reading. We think its a wonderful cause, and rather than a young pup are seriously considering the option of adopting.
I notice there is a fun day coming up. Could anyone tell me where and when this is taking place? I wonder if this might be an ideal opportunity to come along and find out a little bit more from those in the know.
Many thanks
Louise & Chris

Re: Fun day?
Hi Louise & Chris, and welcome
Our first dog was a Border Collie pup, and she grew up with our children. Our second was our first Golden, who came to us from a breeder at twelve weeks old. Both dogs were very special to our family. But by far the most rewarding is our beautiful Ella.
She came to us from Jan at three years old and is now seven. Having her in our lives is just a joy. Giving her a second chance in life and watching her flourish and grow in confidence has been so rewarding. These dogs deserve another chance, a forever home. But they also come with a history, and we don't know how they have lived before, and as everyone on here knows, it will take love, kindness, time and patience, to win their trust and their hearts.
As Sonia has said, the best person to talk to is Jan.
Wishing you well, Jean

Re: Fun day?
Hello Louise and Chris,
Give Jan a ring and have a chat, she will give you all the information. Ginnie and Cobi are the first rescue retrievers we have owned but have had them in our family since 1978, borrowing my Mum's two when we first got married and then after a couple of years owning our own. We have always had two dogs together, even when only one was ours, Mum's dog has lived here as well.....and then we had three goldens when my sisters domestic circumstances changed....and when our friends went abroad another two....love 'em to bits....Now many years on neither of us would like to go through the 'puppy stage' again, and we are very thankful to Jan for getting it right with Ginnie and Cobi.

Re: Fun day?
Thank you all for your advice, I will contact Jan.
We are going on holiday in September, so we wouldn't want to do anything before then, as that just wouldn't be fair.
We thought the fun day might also be an opportunity to show our support for the cause, but I can't seem to find the details about when/where it is being held etc, and even if it is open to the public. Can anyone help with the info?
Thank you all so much.

Re: Fun day?
Fun day is a day for all the dogs that have been re-homed by Jan. Strictly speaking, it isn't an open event, so therefore not advertised. However, because you are interested in adopting I would contact Jan.
Re: Fun day?
Aaaaah I see, thank you for clarifying that.
I had assumed it was a summer fayre type of occasion (not sure where I got this idea from!), but it sounds great fun for all the dogs (and no doubt slightly chaotic for all the mums and dads!). I hope its a wonderful success!!
Thanks again to everyone. I will contact Jan, probably after our holidays. Best wishes to all.

Re: Fun day?
Yes, David went onto the weather site this morning. Supposed to be getting better from tomorrow, so fingers and toes crossed.
The dogs have looked awful these past few days, plastered in muck, poor souls they have just dried out and then it's been time for going out again. We're going through towels and dry beds like there's no tomorrows. No doubt everyone else the same.

Re: Fun day?

Ella was so looking forward to meeting her name-sake and Brad too

Never mind, I'm sure you'll all be there in spirit, and there's bound to be loads of pictures.
Jean
